Hurricane Dennis Splits a Local Island in Two

W have all heard of Shell Island, just south of Panama City. We can give it a new name: Shell Islands.

It seems Hurricane Dennis' storm surge cut the island almost completely in two.

The cut is about a mile east of the jetties, about where the Anderson dock was located.

The cut is about 30 to 40 feet wide. By the way, it is not navigable at this time.

The storm blew the sand from the island and washed it into a makeshift peninsula in the bay, so next time you head out into the bay, be sure you are heading to the islands, since Shell Island is now two.
