Pastor Markus Bishop surrendered to Bay County sheriff's investigators around 8:00 Tuesday morning, but Tuesday afternoon the 47-year-old was back to work at his Faith Christian Family Church.

Sheriff's officials are charging the pastor with domestic battery against his wife, 42-year-old Margie Bishop.

According to the incident report, the Bishops got into an argument in their home at the Exclusive Preserve on the night of Sunday March 16. That's when Margie Bishop claims her husband hit her with his fist.

The next day Mrs. Bishop left their home and traveled to her parents’ house in Broward County. That's when she filed the report against her husband, but his attorney says Bishop did not intentionally injure his wife.

"He was watching television, went to sleep on the couch and woke up with her over him hollering at him. When he told her to go back to bed she threw a glass of wine in his face. They then started a pushing-shoving match and then she may have gotten injured in what I would call a wrestling match. Basically there was some pushing and shoving that took place," said Waylon Graham, Markus Bishop's attorney.

Along with the picture, Margie Bishop released a statement today saying "in the past I have tried to deal with Markus' violence and verbal abuse in different ways to no avail. For the benefit of the church and all those, including me, who continue to care for him, it is my sincere hope that he seeks and finally receives proper treatment for his problem."

She goes on to say "I am saddened by his attorney's public mischaracterization of the recent assault and their desperate attempts to focus the attention away from his brutal attack."

Bay County sheriff's investigators say they take all domestic abuse allegations seriously and handled this case just like any other similar complaint.

"Mr. Bishop was not singled out. We responded to complaints and we were assisted in this investigation by the Miramar Police Department down south. We take these cases very seriously and respond to them appropriately," said Jimmy Stanford with the Bay County Sheriff's Office.

Bishop is free on his own recognizance. He's due back in court March 31st for an arraignment.

A conviction on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge carries a maximum penalty of a year in the county jail, but first offenders rarely receive that sentence.

I have to agree about the bond part. I know someone who has a spotless history, long residence in the same location, a family to provide for and he was arrested on a minor offense of having expired vehicle tags... he was made to pay several hundred dollars bond and there was no one harmed, no potential for harm, and no violence involved. That seems extremely unfair IMO. Besides... from what I've heard of this pastor over the past 5 or 6 years, he's definitely not the most upstanding character ever. Sad, but not surprising :(

No offense, but family violence is a very serious charge. The pastor should have been made to post bond like any one else. An own recognizance bond is a slap in the face to anyone who doesn't own a 3 million dollar home. It shows favoritism by law enforcement. I will continue to pray for this man and his family. Everyone should watch close to make sure he doesn't just get to walk away from this, because of his position in this area. Family violence could mean someone eventually gets dead not just punched!!! Hopefully he will go before Dee Dee Costello and I'll bet he wont hit another woman!!

Just because you are a pastor, doesn't mean you are not human. However, the Bible says that you are to pray for those in leadership. The strong is to pray for the week. If this is true then Markus and Margie needs to seek Spiritual & Marritial guidance. The devil is seeking to kill & destroy God's Children. The power of a man is in his tongue so if we PRAY PRAY PRAY things will change. Thank you for your time.

Pastor Markus is a great minister in the pulpit but you dont hear things like this from him .He preaches against Drinking WINE so Where does the wine play in the church parsonage if he doesnt pay property taxes on the mansion since he says it falls under a parsonage.Since she serves as a senior pastor over womens ministrys at the church how will she continue to fill the role if she claims he is abusive and him being her boss at the church.Maybe she and he both need to listen to Margies message called" WHO DO YOU LOVE" preached on Wednesday Jan 24th 2007.By Pastor Margie BISHOP. The first marriage that fell through the church asked him to stay on after his first wife left and he told the congregation about it.Margie was introduced to Markus by a minister friend and they got married and while on vacation at FCFC he mentioned she spoke different languages. She came from a larger church with more people and he needed someone to help with the womens ministrys at FCFC.
