County Road 30A has been a favorite scenic route in Walton County for years, but new signs could be taking away from its beauty.
If you have driven down the scenic 30A lately you've noticed a few things. There are beautiful homes, plenty of people walking and riding bikes, and some new blue signs telling you where you are.
Those blue signs have been going up since November.
Sonny Mares, Interim Director of Walton TDC said, "The signs on 30A are way finding signs. It's been a process of about seven years in the development and the purpose of the signs is for our visitors to know where they are and where they're going."
Although the signs are needed for tourists, the residents aren't pleased with how the tourist development council went about placing them on 30A.
Resident Dave Raushkolb said, "We feel that that the Tourist Development Council as a marketing company should have focused on working with the community closely, to have focus groups. Really, none of that happened over the years."
The signs aren't small, and that's one of the many reasons the community is upset about them.
"I was actually excited when I found out that the TDC was going to be doing news signs, but horrified when they came out the way they did. It's our position and the position of most people on 30A that the signs are too large, the material is metal; they look far too industrial."
The TDC held a workshop this afternoon for concerned residents to discuss a possible solution. Both sides hope they'll come to a reasonable agreement at the meeting.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 at the South Walton Library.
