Red Cross Sets Up Special Shelter for Evacuees in Panama City

The Central Panhandle Chapter of The American Red Cross has opened a special shelter at the Bay County Fairgrounds in Panama City for evacuees from Louisiana and Mississippi fleeing from Hurricane Katrina.

Red Cross officials say those wanting to use the shelter should bring necessary medications, any bedding they may have, snacks, and toys for children. The Red Cross says bring identification that identifies you as a resident of one of the evacuated areas.

For those not familiar with the area, the Bay County Fairground is located at 2230 East 15th Street; that’s at the corner of East 15th St. (Highway 98) and Sherman Ave.

In addition to the indoor facilities, the Red Cross says it also has room for parking some motor homes and campers if necessary.
