Panhandle Air Bases Report Dennis Did $54.0 Million in Damage

Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field are reporting that Hurricane Dennis did about $50 million in damages.

The Air Force has yet to calculate damage to roads, communications and tracking equipment on Santa Rosa Island where Dennis came ashore July 10.

Eglin itself had almost $20 million in damage to office buildings, housing and an Army Ranger training site. The base incurred about $6 million in travel and related costs to evacuate personnel and aircraft.

At Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City Dennis caused $2.1 million in damage

At Hurlburt Field, building damage is estimated at just under $10 million. Its evacuation cost is expected to run a little over $5 million.

Officials say Dennis also damaged buildings at a pilot training base near Milton, but no dollar estimate has been made.
