Murder Shakes Quiet Mexico Beach

A Mexico Beach man is in the Bay County Jail accused of brutally killing his roommate.

It’s the second murder in less than a year in this quiet beachfront community in eastern Bay County.

There have been very few violent crimes in the small town’s history, but now residents are on edge.

Thirty-one-year-old Aaron Scott Garner has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Bay County sheriff’s investigators describe Garner as a drifter who worked at several odd jobs around Mexico Beach. They say he was renting a room in one of the units at the Rustic Sands Resort Campground.

According to arrest reports, Garner thought his roommate/landlord was over charging him rent.

He allegedly beat her unconscious with a wooden stick Wednesday morning, took off her clothes and tried to have sex with her.

Investigators told reporters the female victim then began making noise, so Garner began smashing her head with a rock until she died.

Wednesday, murder comes on the heels of a November stabbing death just down the road. Deputies say the found out about the latest murder after Garner called a friend for a ride and told him what he had done.
