Hurricane Katrina is still on the minds of many Bay County residents as they plan for the future. In fact, evacuation route safety is one of the reasons Bay County commissioners want to replace the Grand Lagoon Bridge on Thomas Drive.
Residents of the area met over the weekend to share results of a development and environmental studies on the bridge.
The present old bridge is the only access across Grand Lagoon and creates a two-lane bottleneck as each side is four lanes.
The original bridge dates back to 1960 and did not take in to concern environmental issues when it was built.
The Lagoon needs a larger opening at the bridge so more water can flush through it, keeping it cleaner.
If you have questions about the proposed replacement bridge contact the county commissioner for your district.
