Hit and Run Death Gets 30 Years for Suspect

A 24-year-old Bay County man accused of killing a Tyndall Air Force Base Game Warden in a drunk driving incident is heading to prison.

William Deshonn Jones pled guilty to DUI manslaughter in a Bay County courtroom. Then the judge sentenced Jones to 30 years in prison.

Back in March, Jones ran a stop sign at the corner of Kimbrel Avenue and Wallace Road in Callaway and hit a pick-up truck. The pick-up driver, 65-year-old John Maples, was killed.

Maples' brother was in the passenger seat. He was hurt, but has recovered.

After the crash, Jones left the scene. Sheriff's deputies found him a short time later at his nearby Callaway home.

Maples worked as the Game Warden at Tyndall for 15 years prior to his death. He'd planned to retire this past June.
