The city commission, on a 3-2 vote Tuesday evening, approved a 1.5 mill ad valorem tax, and a new budget to go with it.
The small eastside city has been financially strapped, and has been looking for a new revenue source. The new property tax is the lowest levied by any of the local cities.
The narrow approval came after a public hearing in which the commission heard from critics and supporters of the tax proposal.
The property tax will bring in a little more than $200,000 this year.
