There's something funny going around Chipley and investigators want to find out who's responsible.
At first glance the $10, $20 and $50 bills appear to be the real thing, but the money is not real. Someone's been passing the fake bills at Chipley stores, even the banks.
Chipley police investigators say the money looks authentic, even fooling store clerks using the counterfeit pen tests.
Lt. Dennis Speight of Chipley PD says, "The clerk marks it with a counterfeit pen. The first time it doesn't even show that it's bad money; after so many seconds it will turn a dark brown. We've got a lot of it within the last month and a half."
Police say they've discovered over $3,000 worth of the counterfeit bills in the past month and a half.
