Insurers Have Paid Almost $50 Million in Dennis Claims

State officials say that insurance companies have paid out more than $47 million on more than 46,000 claims for damage done last month by Hurricane Dennis.

Insurers said Wednesday they expect to eventually pay out more than $900 million, including about $640 million in Florida.

The hurricane came ashore near Pensacola July 10.

Of the claims already filed in Florida, more than 75 percent were filed by policyholders in Santa Rosa, Escambia and Okaloosa Counties in the western Panhandle.
