Major Retail Theft Ring Broken Up

Walton County Sheriff’s deputies say they have broken up a two county retail theft ring and seized at least $50,000 in stolen merchandise.

The ring apparently targets retail stores in both Okaloosa and Walton counties.

40-year-old William Cuartas of Davenport is the only one arrested so far. But investigators say Cuartas along with several others, stolen expensive clothing from more than a dozen stores.

Some of the stolen loot includes 12 hundred clothing items valued at more than $50,000.

Walton Sheriff’s Deputies say members of the ring would go into a store. One would actually buy something to distract the clerk, while the others would shoplift.

They were also fairly successful in dodging security cameras. But, deputies say it won’t be long before they catch up with the others.
