Arrest Made in Child Death Case

Defuniak Springs police are charging a woman with the death of her own son.

Brandy Lee Brown faces charges with the drowning death of her one-year-old son. The child drowned in a bathtub at the Heritage Bay apartment complex on May 29.

Investigators say Brown left the little boy in a tub while she was partying outside the apartment.

Defuniak Springs police say had already responded to some type of disturbance call in the area earlier that day.

Neighbors reported hearing Brown screaming for help. They performed CPR on the boy until paramedics arrived. The boy died a short time later at a nearby hospital.

Inv. Johnny Grantham says she faces a multitude of charges.

“One count of manslaughter, aggravated manslaughter, death of a child and two counts of aggravated neglect, child neglect.”

Police say Brown was pregnant at the time her son died. They held off on her arrested until after she gave birth to her second baby a few days ago.
