Judge Denies Bond for Air Force Pilot Charged in Panhandle Attack

An Air Force pilot charged with forcing his way into a judge's home in Gulf County and attacking the jurist's stepdaughter will remain jailed pending his trial.

A circuit judge denied bond for 29-year-old Captain John Perrys of Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. Perrys is jailed in Port St. Joe.

Investigators say Perrys wore a mask when he forced his way into Gulf County Judge Fred Witten's home April 12 and attacked former fiancée Carolyn Lister.

She testified at a May hearing that she was hit with a metal baton as she stepped from the shower. She fled bleeding and naked to a neighbor's home.

Perrys' lawyer Berry Beroset wants him freed on bond but the circuit judge says the pilot is a threat to the community.
