Plane Crashes in Freeport

A plane crashed in Walton County Saturday evening, killing the two people on board.

It happened just before 5:00 p.m. on a private airstrip that sits off Joe Dugger Road just east of Freeport.

Walton County sheriff's investigators say a two-seat Champion Citabria crashed near the grassy airstrip soon after taking off.

The pilot, Fred Bogle, 63, of Seagrove Beach, died at the scene. His passenger, Ruber Rios, 40, of Tallahassee, died on the way to a local hospital.

The National Transportation and Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
