In Walton County, a man who killed his neighbor was handed the death penalty.
Jesse Gaurdado had pleaded guilty to last year’s murder of 75-year-old Jackie Malone.
Malone was a realtor and a community activist who befriended Guardado and offered him a place to live.
Guardado was out on conditional release supervision when he stabbed and beat Malone on September 13, 2004.
Guardado did not deny the murder and accepted full responsibility.
Judge Kelvin Wells followed a jury's recommendation and imposed the death sentence.
The suspect says a battle with cocaine addiction led him to kill Miss Malone. He did help police quickly recover evidence that was used against him to resolve the case.
