Panama City Mayor Lauren Degeorge wants a six-month moratorium on the construction of buildings higher than four stories. She argues not enough planning has been done to see if city infrastructure can support 12 to 15-story buildings.
Other commissioners say enough planning has been done and worry a delay in construction will scare off developers. In Tuesday's packed City Commission meeting, the issue was tabled.
Lauren Degeorge said, "It wasn't really pushed back, we just haven't gotten to the point. We needed time to discuss it and get more people involved in making this decision. It will be voted on September 13th."
Also in Tuesday's meeting the commission voted to allow public hearings on the first reading of ordinances.
