Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City is opening up its facilities to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
College officials say it could be months, even up to a year, before colleges in the affected areas will be able to reopen.
GCCC is offering freshman and sophomore undergraduate classes, access to the library, including computers, and in some cases more importantly, access to shower facilities.
The college’s gym shower can accommodate up to 10 men and 10 women at a time.
Soap will be provided but there are not enough towels. Shower facilities will be available Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s closed on weekends and will be closed next Monday, Labor Day.
For information contact Chris Thomas at the college at 747-3250.
