Holmes County Wraps Up its First Ever Ballot by Mail

It looks like Holmes County could get a new hospital sometime in the not too distant future.

Voters approved a referendum that will allow the Holmes County Hospital Corporation to raise more money for a new hospital in Bonifay.

The vote was 3,831 for, 704 against. The referendum will allow the hospital corporation to amend its charter.

Right now the charter limits the amount of money the hospital can borrow or the amount of bonds it can sell to build a new facility.

Supporters promise the move will not put any additional burden on Holmes County taxpayers.

This was Holmes County's first ever mail-in election. The ballots went out to all registered voters a month ago.

Elections officials in Bonifay counted the votes Tuesday night after the polls closed at 7:00.
