WJHG-TV NewsChannel Seven Offering Free Long Distance for Hurricane Evacuees

The thousands of evacuees in our area are searching for any sense of normalcy in their lives, making a phone call has become somewhat of a luxury for many of them.

So NewsChannel Seven and Knology are teaming up to provide free long distance service each day from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. starting tomorrow (Tuesday).

Knology is setting up a phone bank in front of the NewsChannel Seven studios at 8195 Front Beach Road (the four-lane) starting in the morning.

This free service is to allow evacuees only to call home, relatives, or close friends to let them know you are all right and where you are.

Knology is donating all of the long distance charges, so it won't cost you anything.

We do ask that you bring some kind of identification, like a driver’s license or car registration which shows you are a resident of the hurricane affected area. Please limit your calls to five minutes each.
