Beach Elementary officials say 30 students displaced by Hurricane Katrina have been registered for classes on Tuesday, and they're expecting even more to show up in the coming days.

Teachers say fitting in the extra students may not be easy, but it’s a challenge they gladly accept.

Beach Elementary could see a large influx of students because the largest number of evacuees in our area is staying on the beach.

Those extra students at Beach Elementary will get more than an education when they come to school on Tuesday. The school's parent teacher organization has organized a clothes and supply drive.

Monday volunteers spent time sorting the hundreds of donated items that will be given to the children and their parents that need them.

PTO officials say many families may be without money for groceries over the next few weeks and are looking for food card donations.

If you'd like to help, call the school at 233-5191.
