Ophelia Has Some Worried Along Northeast Florida Coast

Tropical Storm Ophelia

Jacksonville Beach has been waiting for Tropical Storm Ophelia. There are no surfers in the churning Atlantic Ocean and seaside bars have no tourists.

The tropical depression off Florida's Atlantic coast strengthened into a tropical storm Wednesday and could bring high winds and rain to central and northern portions of the state over the next few days.

The Jacksonville area is one of the few spots spared any serious damage from the six hurricanes that have hit Florida in the last 13 months.

This year, Hurricane Dennis hit the Panhandle in July and Hurricane Katrina hit south Florida last month, killing 11 people before destroying New Orleans four days later.
