Circus Goes On... Without Animals

They may not have the mane of a Bengal tiger, but these ponies are ready for their little riders, and these may not be ferocious lions, but these felines are still jumping through hoops.

His weekend's Cole Brothers circus will have a different look. Management has made a few cutbacks and left the "bigger talent" behind.

Cole Brothers no longer uses exotic and big game animals. Superheroes instead of the super-sized animals allow the circus to keep ticket prices affordable: $15 for general admission, instead of about $34. Even so, some may be a bit disappointed.

The changes could have some other benefits. Circus officials say they hope animal rights activists will now come to enjoy the show instead of protest against it.

Animals or not, as they say in the circus, the show must go on. This time it may even smell better. The circus opens Friday night and runs through Sunday.

Show times are 4:30 and 7:30 Friday, 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 Saturday and 1:30 & 4:30 Sunday.
