The war in Iraq has brought tragedy to a Bay County family.
Forty-four-year-old William “Bill” Wood was killed Thursday in Iraq. He was of Rutherford High School class of 1979.
He was a lieutenant colonel and commanded the 1st Infantry Battalion of the 184 Regiment of the California Army National Guard.
The military has not yet released details of his death, but family members say they have been told he was investigating a homemade bomb that killed one of his soldiers when a second explosion occurred.
Wood was killed and another soldier was injured in the second blast.
