Charter School Offers Space for Evacuees

First graders have a lot in common, from their favorite sports to recent visits from the tooth fairy. But Chase Meyer lost more than just teeth last month.

Chase is one of two students that arrived Thursday morning in the first grade class at Tapestry Park Charter School. Faculty and parents at the school think the small class sizes and family atmosphere is perfect for displaced students.

Tapestry Park is a charter school, which means the curriculum is a little different and students wear uniforms. But faculty members tell evacuated families not to worry about uniforms, supplies or lunches. It's all taken care of. And students couldn't be happier.

Over 100 displaced students have enrolled in the public schools on Panama City Beach in the last few days.
