Two Dead in North Walton Domestic Case

Walton County sheriff’s investigators are still trying to find out what happed at a home west of DeFuniak Springs near the Mossy Head community.

Inside the home on Tiger Lilly Road two people died and a third was critically wounded in what appears to have been domestic violence.

Police receive a disturbance call around 7:30 Friday morning to the home. Inside they found 11-year-old Chelsie Marie Sword dead from a gunshot wound.

Also dead was Chelsie’s father, Joseph Ray Sword.

The wife, Leslie Louise Sword, was found across the street in a neighbor’s home. He had been shot in the upper chest area and was in critical condition.

Deputies say they believe that Joseph Ray Sword, shot his wife, then his daughter and then turned the gun on himself.

Neighbors say the couple had been having marital problems. Joseph Sword was arrested in September on domestic violence charges and had just been released from the Walton County Jail in DeFuniak Springs on October 19.

The couple reportedly had started divorce proceedings.
