Long-time Local Newsman Hangs Up the Mic and Headphones

A 38-year journalism career came to an end Thursday when WKGC Radio’s Bill Oberst retired.

Since he began work with the News Herald in 1967, Oberst has mastered just about every form of media and Press.

He worked with the Associated Press for almost a decade. From there he went to WDLP Radio in Panama City and then he came to NewsChannel Seven - WJHG.

He would later publish a newspaper in Louisiana; write a book and the wraps on his distinguished career at WKGC The Gulf Coast Community College radio station.

He admits he will miss being on top of breaking news. Among Bill’s one on one interviews are Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and rocket scientist Werner Von Braun.
