The Wewahitchka Lady Gators softball team is going to have to catch up to the celebration that started last night after their win.
Residents put up signs around town Friday to show their support and to greet the returning champs. They say they're happy about the win and can't wait to share their enthusiasm with the girls.
"Everybody's excited to death. You take a small town like Wewa, go to a big city and play a private school, if I'm not mistaken, and come back a winner for the second time, so everybody's excited. Big day planned today," said Beverly Pitts, a Wewa resident.
"Tremendous accomplishment. They're a bunch of gutsy girls. They work hard and believe in themselves and we're very proud as a community," said Mack Eubanks, former Wewa High principal.
"When the girls come back in town everyone is going to let them know they did good and support our hometown team," said Diana Duncan, a Wewa resident.
The welcome home parade was scheduled to kick off around 6:00 p.m. on Friday in downtown Wewa.
