Nationwide, foreclosure filings climbed 65 percent in April compared to the same month last year. And the housing slump is also extremely evident here in the panhandle.

The Bay County courthouse reports 161 lawsuits for foreclosure were filed last month. That's compared to only 74 in April of 2007. That’s an increase of 118 percent.

713 foreclosure complaints have been filed in the county just this year so far, and already this month there have already been 67 foreclosure filings already.
