One Fisherman's Body Recovered, Another Still Sought

A body recovered from the Gulf of Mexico off the Florida Panhandle was identified Monday as one of two fishermen reported missing last week.

The body of Lonnie Ray Goff, 54, of Perry, was found on Saturday about 15 miles southeast of Carrabelle, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported. The second man, Jimmy White, 67, of Glen St. Mary, remained missing.

The pair launched their 15-foot boat on the Fenholloway River in Taylor County on the morning of Oct. 2, and were reported overdue that night.

A commercial fisherman found their mostly submerged boat four days later in the gulf near the mouth of the river. Fishermen then spotted the body on Saturday about 45 miles west of the river's mouth.

A preliminary autopsy indicated drowning as the cause of death pending additional tests, said Conservation Commission Lt. Stan Kirkland.
