Theft Charges Filed Against Senior Citizens Leader

The former head of the Franklin County Senior Citizens Council has been arrested after an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Forty-five-year-old Cherry L. Rankin turned herself into the Franklin County Jail at Eastpoint and then was released on her own recognizance after being booked on grand theft charges.

The charges stem from allegations that Rankin, while serving as president of the Senior Council, used a council credit card and cashed checks on the council’s bank account for personal use for over $5,600.

An audit showed more than 50 unauthorized credit card charges were made during 2003-04 for such purchases as clothing, nail care, jewelry, dining, satellite TV service and expenses related to a ministerial conference.
