County's Plans to Build in a Swamp Are Axed

It looks like the Bay County Commission's hopes to build a new county office complex at the corner of State Road 77 and Baldwin Ave. may not pan out.

The News Herald is reporting in Tuesday's edition the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is objecting to the county's plans.

Bay County was considering buying the 82 acres of $13 million to build a county office complex, which would house most county offices.

Apparently the plans called for a lake on the property, which would have served as a source for storm water drainage.

But the Corps of Engineers says a large amount of the property is already a wetland and the county's plans just are not feasible.

Commissioners are already looking for another piece of land, according to News Herald reports.
