Over 100 water rescues were made yesterday while double red flags were flying making it one of the busiest days on record for rescues.

The body of a missing man was pulled from the water about 10 o'clock Sunday morning near the carousel area of Laguna Beach where he went missing Saturday.

The body of 21 year old Pierre E. Allen of Water Valley, Mississippi, was found about 100 yards off shore. Authorities believe Allen was trying and save a distressed swimmer when he became distressed himself.

The swimmer he was trying to help was brought to shore by rescue personnel. But Allen disappeared in the gulf.

The search by the Sheriff's office air unit, the Coast Guard, and and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officers boats continued until dark. His body was recovered at mid-morning Sunday not far from where he was least seen.

Allen was visiting Panama City Beach with friends. He was a paratrooper in the Army, and was stationed at Fort Bragg.

Meanwhile, the body of a second swimmer believed to have drowned this weekend in the gulf has yet to be recovered.

I was in Panama City this past weekend when the undertow was so bad. I do not understand why they do not have flags on the beach let vacationeers know how safe the water is. I stayed on Front Beach Road and looked for flags but did not see any. Common sense would tell you not to go into the water (even wading you could feel the undertow was horrible) but plenty of people were in the water. The beach police drove by all day and never stopped to let people know it was unsafe. The only time they made people get out of the water was when they had to rescue three people in the area we were in. Other than that they just rode up and down the beach.

In regards to the soldier whio died trying to save a distress swimmer, if it were up to me, that distressed swimmer should be arrested and charged with manslaughter. When it's not save to go swimming, then you should not go swimming. How intelligent to you ha ve to be to know that?
