The name of this competition, "Ironman" defines Scott Johnson. He's a recent double lung transplant recipient, which turned his life around.
Through it all, he persevered and now races on.
From the time he was born, Scott's confronted obstacles. What he's been through is cystic fibrosis, when a defective gene causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs.
Nine hours and two new lungs later, Scott had a new grasp on life, and it's inspired him to be able to participate in this 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26 mile run.
Scott says going through the mental and emotional obstacles in his life will help him get through the physical obstacles on Saturday, and through it all, Scott says it was his faith, family, and of course, his donor that sustains him!
Scott received his new lungs in 2001. This is his 20th triathlon. His doctors are amazed by the obstacles he's overcome, but he's not through yet. Scott says he'd like to take up SCUBA diving.
