Becoming a Teacher Is Now Much Easier

By  |

Florida, like the rest of the country, has a teacher shortage.

Colleges and universities are scrambling to fill the need, and Gulf Coast Community College is taking the lead in trying to find a solution.

Wednesday’s meeting at Gulf Coast introduced the EPI program. It’s the Educator Preparation Institute. It allows any person with a four year degree in any field to apply for a teaching degree.

Nine classes must be completed, but they're mainly online classes with only one Saturday a month meeting face to face.

Congressman Jim Davis introduced this idea, which is taking place across the state. The deadline to apply is November 30.

There is another mandatory meeting December 10 in the Professional Development Center at Gulf Coast Community College and classes begin in January. It costs about $2,000 to take these classes.
