Another overnight fire kept fire investigators busy this morning. Neighbors noticed smoke coming from a new, vacant apartment at Cedars Crossing, in the Hiland Park area, around 2:15 this morning.

When fire crews arrived, flames were beginning to eat through the roof.

Crews from at least four departments joined the Hiland Park fire fighters to battle the blaze. It took more than an hour and a half to get it under control. By the time the fire was out, the building was destroyed.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's office are looking for the cause of the fire.

The State Fire Marshal's office is also investigating an overnight fire in Springfield.

This one happened right around midnight, at a vacant apartment on Saint John Street, off Business 98.

Crews managed to contain the flames to just the living room of the residence. But much of the rest of the apartment has smoke and water damage.

Investigators say right now, it looks like the corner of a couch either caught fire, or was set on fire.
