Two former area high school football coaches face discipline by the state for their misbehavior.
Former Vernon high Head Coach and Athletic Director Russ Rogers has agreed to a reprimand, probation and a fine, for an expletive-filled tirade against Vernon players in January of last year.
The outburst came after a Vernon JV basketball loss, and the School Resource Officer had to intervene. If the state panel agrees to the deal next month, Rogers will be reprimanded, placed on two years probation, and pay $800 in fines and probation costs.
Over in Walton County, former South Walton Head Coach James Barron's case has been placed on the agenda by the state panel for next months meeting.
Barron was arrested for assaulting a player and allegedly teaching his players how to disable opponents with a throat thrust.
The criminal charges have been resolved, and Barron has agreed not to coach in Walton County again. Now, his state certification could be at risk.
