The Old Bayline Depot Winds Up in Court

A citizens' group has filed a law suit seeking to block the sale of the old Bayline Train Depot.

The group, Citizens for Better Government, and Panama City residents Warren and Elsie Ray Clary filed the suit in local circuit court.

Named as defendants were the City of Panama City, North Downtown Community Redevelopment agency, and Kingston Group, the developer.

The plaintiffs’ charge there were many violations in the move to sell the property to Kingstown Group and the sale was seriously flawed. The highest bid wasn't accepted, and the DIB took a bid that did not include the requirement that the train depot be restored, which was one of the main objectives.

Public records law violations occurred, according to the suit, and the DIB sold the land to a developer who has no intention of preserving the old depot.

The suit asks for the sale to be reversed and have the city readdress the preservation of the Bayline building
