With gas prices over $4 a gallon, many people are looking for any type of break.
One Walton County man discovered a product that has helped him see savings at the pump, and it's a system everyone can use and it comes at a reasonable price.
Phillip Todd was feeling pain at the pump, like the rest of us, when he discovered a way to electrolyze water and save money.
Phillip Todd said, "It came to be because I was just basically getting tired of paying $4 a gallon for gas. I just started putting stuff together and tried it out in my car and started saving gas."
The electrolyze uses voltage from the alternator to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The molecules mix with the gas and increase the car's octane rating.
"It's burned as the gas is normally burned it just burns more efficiently with the extra hydrogen and oxygen and steam that's in the system."
The electrolyzer can save you about 20 percent per gallon, and the construction is actually quite easy. It's basically a mason jar and a few basic hardware parts. Todd drives a sporty Honda S2000 that used to average 27 miles per gallon, but with the electrolyze, the car now gets around 35 miles per gallon and he says the modifications can work on any car.
"There are about three or four separate packages, but it's all pretty much the same technology, just a different application."
So how much would these modifications cost you? Anywhere from $150 dollars to $275, based on the size of your car's engine.
Todd says that's a steal compared to the price you would pay for a brand new hybrid.
"The initial coast of paying 25 or 30 thousand dollars is much higher than paying a few hundreds of dollars to retrofit your system."
