There’s more bad news this Christmas holiday for an area death row killer from Okaloosa County.
Back in June the Florida Supreme Court refused to grant Lamar Brooks a new trial. This week the high court refused to re-hear his appeal.
Brooks was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1996 stabbing death of Rachael Carlson of Crestview and her three-month-old daughter.
He and his cousin, Walker Davis, killed the mother and baby so Davis could avoid having to pay child support. He also wanted to collect on a one hundred thousand dollar life insurance policy.
Brooks underwent two trials and was convicted both times and sentenced to death.
The Florida Supreme court ruled four to three not to rehear the case and to uphold the conviction and death sentence.
