The NAACP is petitioning the United States Department of Justice to file civil rights charges against Zimmerman.
Locally, the Bay County branch of the national organization plans to help spread the petition virtually as well as discuss the the verdict and it's implications to the local community.
Sunday afternoon, the Department of Justice announced the case was under review, but that doesn't mean that a federal case will begin.
Local NAACP officials say they are holding onto hope that justice will be served.
So far the petition has had over 350,000 signatures on the official NAACP website and a matching petition on MoveOn.org has over 175,000.
