Raw Sewage Contaminates Area Waters

Due to the large amount of rainfall on Saturday and Sunday the Florida Health Department at Bay County says raw sewage has flowed unchecked into two areas.

August 17, raw sewage overflowed through a manhole at 7440 Chipewa Street, Callaway. Approximately 7500 gallons of sewage flowed into a storm drain that empties into Callaway Bayou.

The Health Department advises against swimming in Callaway Bayou from Oak Ridge Drive to the entrance of East Bay until further notice.

Due to the large amount of rainfall on Sunday, August 18, raw sewage overflowed through a manhole at the intersection of Business 98 and Kirklin Avenue, Panama City. An unknown amount of sewage flowed into a storm drain that empties into Watson Bayou.

Sewage contamination of water can expose bathers to intestinal viruses, bacteria, and parasites.

The Health Department advises against swimming in Watson Bayou from Business 98 to Dewitt Street until further notice.
