PANAMA CITY BEACH - No criminal charges will be filed against Arnold High School's Athletic Director.
Bay District Schools Superintendent Bill Husfelt has suspended Karisa Wesley for what the school district calls an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The Bay County Sheriff's Office says there is no proof that relationship included sex before the student was 18.
Karisa Wesley's career started to unravel two weeks ago when a former Arnold High School teacher sent a letter to the school district.
The e-mail contained a letter from a former student, identified as student #1, that says he and his best friend, student #2, smoked with Wesley and another teacher on multiple occasions, stayed the night and drank with them.
He also says he heard student #2 "pound (Wesley) more than 10 times."
This alleged relationship began in 2011, when the two teenagers were students at Arnold High and before Wesley was named the Athletic Director.
"Mr. Husfelt has suspended the employee with pay and will be recommending her termination at Tuesday's school board meeting," said Sharon Michalik, Executive Director of Human Resources and Employee Support Services.
Michalik says Wesley maintains her innocence, but Superintendent Husfelt will still recommend the school board fire her when they meet on Tuesday.
"We would make no distinction between a teacher or administrator having a relationship with a student. It's inappropriate for all of our employees to have a relationship with a student of that nature," said Michalik.
As part of their investigation, the Bay County Sheriff's Office tells Newschannel 7 they spoke to both students and that student #2 denies having sex with Wesley before he turned 18.
Wesley was a teacher and volleyball coach at Arnold for several years before she was named Athletic Director in June of last year.
NewsChannel 7 contacted Wesley Wednesday after she was suspended, but she has yet to return calls or emails.
As for teacher #2, her case is still under investigation by the school board.
Sources tell NewsChannel 7 Arnold High School Principal Keith Bland has called an emergency meeting Thursday morning with his staff members.
