New unemployment numbers for December were released Friday and Florida continues to have the lowest unemployment and the fastest job growth rate of the ten most populous states.
Locally, Bay County's 3.2 percent unemployment rate for December was record low, even beating November’s 3.7 percent rate.
Other counties in the area showed similar declines. Calhoun and Franklin were down to 2.9 percent unemployment, Gulf 3.4 percent and Holmes dropped to 3.1 percent
The rates are the lowest since the record keeping began in 1976. Jackson County dropped to 2.9 percent, Liberty 2.4 percent, Okaloosa and Walton both at 2.3 percent, and Washington at 3.2 percent
The state wide average for unemployment in December was 3.3 percent.
