Deadly Head-On Crash In Washington County

CARRYVILLE – One person is killed and two others badly injured in a head-on crash in Caryville.

Ronald Cook, 51, of Wausau was headed south on County Road 279 Friday evening. Florida Highway Patrol says he veered into oncoming traffic. The driver of a Kia Sorento, headed north, swerved into the shoulder trying to avoid Cook’s Mustang. They crashed at 5:20 p.m., just south of Swindle Road, near Pate Lake.

Cook was pronounced dead at Bay Medical/Sacred Heart in Panama City. The other driver, Helen Chambers, 68 of Caryville, was also taken to Bay Medical where she’s listed in critical condition. Her passenger, Noma Hartfield, 77, of DeFuniak Springs, was taken to Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay with serious injuries.
