Southerland Talks About Latest in Washington

Wednesday afternoon, as the House waited on the Senate proposal, Congressman Steve Southerland told WJHG he believed enough Republicans would support the plan and it would pass Wednesday night.

However at the time, Southerland said he planned to vote against the measure.

"Four times I've voted to fund the government, but to change the trajectory of spending in a responsible way. Tonight's vote does not do that," he said.

Southerland stayed true to his word tonight, voting against the plan to reopen government.

Southerland says he believes the agreement, without any spending reforms, is irresponsible and creates a dangerous situation for the next generation of Americans.
