Signing up the kids for low cost health care coverage just got a lot easier, thanks to a new internet portal where parents can apply online.
Fred Knapp, the assistant director of Florida Healthy Kids, says the new Web site reduces the time and paperwork needed to sign up for state subsidized health insurance.
“The advantages of the online application is that it is easier and faster for the family. Families can submit in less than 30 minutes their application. The data that is submitted tends to be more accurate.”
You can apply online at www.healthykids.org.
But even with the new Web system, there’s still some extra paperwork. The cost is based on family income, so applicants will still have to send in their W-2 forms or tax returns by snail mail.
More than 200,000 children are covered by the Health Kids program, but there are still more than 100,000 children who qualify for the program but are not covered.
