Steve Meadows, the State Attorney for the 14th Judicial Circuit, has asked Gov. Jeb Bush to assign a special prosecutor to the investigation into the Martin Anderson death at the Bay County Boot Camp.
Meadows says his office has been given a copy of the FDLE investigation in the case. He said the citizens must have confidence in a fair review of the case.
But often State Attorney investigators work with law enforcement agencies to assist in investigations.
"While I am confident this office can discharge its duty according to out sworn oath, it is important there be no questions as to the integrity," Meadows said.
He told the governor," There is good and sufficient reason to believe the ends of justice would be better served by the appointment of a special outside prosecutor.
Meadows’ letter landed on the governor's desk Tuesday afternoon. A decision is expected shortly.
