Courts Decided Six-Year-Old Sheriff's Race

What may have been the worlds longest running contested election, the 2000 Sheriffs race in Holmes County, may finally be over.

Former Sheriff John Braxton contested his five vote loss to challenger Dennis Lee.

The Holmes County Canvassing Board had rejected 25 ballots.

But now the First District Court of Appeals has sided with the canvassing board and ruled the ballots will not be counted.

Sheriff Lee, by the way, has already completed one full term and is in the second year of his second term.
