Flu Is Big in the Sunshine State

The Centers for Disease Control says the flu bug is hitting hard in Florida.

Florida is one of more than a dozen states with widespread flu activity. It is at the highest category level assigned by the CDC.

The state Department of Health reports Florida's flu season has just passed its traditional peak, but spokesman Fernando Senra says it's not too late to get a flu shot to protect you for the rest of the season.

Senra says there is still plenty of vaccine available. He said 90 percent of the vaccines that come into the state go to physicians.

The Department of Health urges people to stay home from work if they have flu-like symptoms because anything they touch can leave germs for others.
